THE END [APR 11]
The end of the semester is upon us. On Tuesday we'll do wh-movement, on Friday a review class. After the Easter break you'll have your final exam, and that's that. Remember that on Wednesday, April 16 there will be another open lecture on syntax (Prof. Joachim Sabel), which I will introduce briefly on Tuesday. If you're interested in doing more syntax next semester, I will be offering ENG 575: "Comparative Syntax" Tuesdays/Fridays at 1.30pm, where we will start from some of Carnie's data and discussion from other languages and then work our way up from there. You will be required to work harder, read more, think more, and write more...
CLASSES [FEB 18]
Since we spent more (valuable!) time on derivational morphology, we're slightly behind the original schedule. The good news: you'll have to do less in the mid-term. :-) The online syllabus is up to date now.
HOMEWORK I [FEB 18]
I finished grading the first set of homework exercises which I will return in tomorrow's class. The basic stats: out of 32 students, 28 handed theirs in with the average grade of 7.00 (ranging from one 5.0 and two 5.5. all the way up to three 8.5 and one 9.0).
EXERCISES [FEB 7]
The first set of exercises is up for download. I'll hand it out in class tomorrow. They're due next Tuesday (February 12). Feel free to read my other comments on the exercises page.
HANDOUTS [JAN 24]
I just uploaded the handouts for the next few classes, the ones we'll be using for classes 2 and 3 as well as 4 through 6. We might not do much new stuff in class 7, but rather continue with the material from the handouts, which is a fair bit. As you can see, the material covered goes beyond the assigned mini-readings: I thus strongly suggest you start reading the handouts as class preparations together with the McIntyre text!
PAPER [JAN 24]
As discussed in the first class, you're encouraged to pick a topic and research it for a small paper. This would count as "extra credit", so to speak, as outlined in class.
START [JAN 20]
I just put everything up.
